AmCham – Connecting People, Building Business

Phillip Campbell is an AmCham Governor and CEO of engimaFIT, a leadership development company specialising in the area of Adaptive Expertise. Trena Blair, an Amcham Trade Advisory Board Member, and Founder/CEO of FD Global Connections, advises and works with Australian companies to launch into the United States. She has an extensive network of professional advisors who take the stress out of navigating a new market, and who quickly put in place the operating platform to do business. Trena also has an extensive C-Suite network in New York which she leverages to kick-start business development opportunities.

No one could have foreseen that this chance AmCham meeting in March was going to quickly turn into a collaborative and mutually beneficial business opportunity. Also, neither AmCham member knew the other member was heading to New York for different but compatible reasons. Phillip was launching enigmaFIT into the New York market in June with an C-Suite Executive, invitation only Boardroom breakfast event, with the guest speaker MD, Global Talent from BlackRock, who had previously experienced the enigmaFIT Program.

Trena, on the other hand, was on her way to New York in just two days’ time to continue with her business commitments. Having previously lived and worked in New York, she was very familiar with the fast pace of change facing business executives globally. Plus, with her connections she was able to advise and support enigmaFIT in a variety of areas, including business registration, insurance, bank accounts and suitable locations for the launch event. A follow up briefing meeting was quickly arranged and a Tailored Transition Plan was developed to fast track enigmaFIT’s entry into the New York market.

Then it was about to turning this Transition Plan into a reality. “It was an enormous task to be undertaken in a short period. I quickly understood enigmaFIT’s unique value proposition. From my previous corporate experience, I immediately identified the benefits to executives in participating in engimaFIT’s unique program, particularly as they navigate through this disruptive, unsettling world. It was easy for me gain interest from my C-Suite New York network”, says Trena. In addition, Phillip leveraged his AmCham connections and networks plus his Australian based contacts as he worked in tandem with Trena on implementing the Transition Plan.

This serendipitous connection of two members exemplifies the value of an AmCham introduction and the art of professional networking with a mutual ‘Win/Win’ outcome.

The launch event was attended by Twenty C-Suite Executives representing the Top 500 Global Organisations such as The Boston Consulting Group, Estee Lauder, Chanel, AMEX, Morgan Stanley, KPMG, etc. Immediately after the launch, two thirds of the organisations attending completed the enigmaFIT Fluid Intelligence Test with follow up meetings during the next week. This resulted in three Global organisations becoming enigmaFIT clients within three months of the breakfast launch.

“We were thrilled with the launch, the quality of brands, and the seniority of executives who attended the Boardroom Breakfast. It was hard work, but we achieved a better outcome much quicker with Trena’s help” Phillip stated. In addition, Phillip kicked off the Human Capital Institute’s 2016 Global Talent Management Conference in October in New York. Plus, Trena has been back to the USA on several occasions representing other organisations and supporting their business development endeavours into the American market.

This successful journey is by no means unusual. Indeed, many AmCham members can recall excellent networking encounters through chance introductions.
